Exscientia CEO Andrew Hopkins wins prestigious BBSRC innovator award

Professor Andrew Hopkins, CEO of Exscientia, has been awarded Commercial Innovator of the Year at the BBSRC (Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council) Innovator of the Year Awards 2015.

Professor Hopkins, along with ex scientia’s CTO Dr Jérémy Besnard and CIO Dr Richard Bickerton, was nominated for ex scientia’s pioneering work in algorithmic drug design.

The yearly award recognises and rewards individuals and small teams who have harnessed the potential of their excellent research, and delivered successful approaches to innovation and impact in the biosciences. The judging panel was made up of influential business leaders, academics and policy makers. The judges looked to recognise those innovators who have worked the hardest and gone the furthest to take their science out of the lab to deliver impact. The prize was presented by the Dr Jackie Hunter, the Chief Executive of the BBSRC, and Martin Donnelly, the Permanent Secretary of the Department of Business Innovations and Skills of the UK Government.

On receiving the award Professor Hopkins said:

I’m delighted for our team that our work at ex scientia, has been recognised at a national UK level.
